Hi. My name is Edwin S. Soriano and I have a generic name.
My mom reminds me how important it is to always include my middle initial as in Edwin S. Soriano, where “S” stands for Sabolboro, sometimes it stands for “Super”.
As I have a generic name, I have many namesakes as well. The internet helps me identify various people named Edwin Soriano. Fortunately, if you do a Google Search for “Edwin Soriano”, I consistently will be on the top of the results. Thanks to the long history of my online presence dating back to 1998 when I published my first websites “Kubo ni Ka Edong” and “Guro sa Cuyo”.
Pangalang Pinoy Blog
This Pangalang Pinoy Blog is my way to writing my book of Filipino Names. I will use this blog to:
- Compile and publish my thematic chapters
- Compile and publish my list of Filipino names
- Gather feedback from readers about my chapters, the names and definitions
- Gather more suggestions for Filipino names
By my birthday in January 2010, I have a mock-up of my book.
By March 30 2010, I have a published book, by hook or by crook!
Why would anyone buy my book of Filipino names?
Well, first is because it is the first compilation of Filipino names designed to help parents choose a Filipino name for their baby. It can even be used to “re-name” yourself, name your business or name other objects that you hold close to your heart (e.g. many people, I included, would give names to their computers, cellphones, cars, or other beloved objects).
Second reason someone will buy this book is to jog the reader’s imagination. I want to help the reader realize the possibilities of giving Pinoy names to their baby. I want to open the minds of Pinoys to use names that scream out with Pinoy Pride.
Third reason is to instill patriotism in Filipinos with Pinoy names and encourage a new generation of Filipinos with distinctly Filipino names.
Through this book, I aim to build a way of thinking for Filipinos to wear the badge of Pinoy Pride through the name they use. We are proud to be Pinoy and our names show it!
This is the perfect time for this book.
We are at an era where Pinoy pride is at its peak. This was recently rekindled with the renewed unity of Pinoys in the passing of a great leader, Corazon Aquino in August 1, 2009 .
The unity of Filipinos and the bayanihan spirit was further highlighted with the Filipinos response to typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng. By thriving amidst the disasters, our country saw the best of Pinoys! We Filipinos CAN be united when we choose to be united.
And of course, our Pambansang Kamao, Manny Pacquiao, further fuels Pinoy Pride each time he brings home a championship belt. Add to that the recent win of Kuya Efren Peñaflorida as CNN Hero of the Year
These and many more great acts by Filipinos, for Filipinos unites us in the very core.
This is the perfect time to inscribe (instill, inscript, embed, make permanent) Filipino pride with one great gift given upon birth of a Filipino baby: A Filipino name!
